Domestic league football resumes this weekend after a two-week international break. While the international break allowed us to see some exciting young talents like France’s Camavinga, the fun and drama returns in the domestic football leagues.
Football fans will be treated to some amazing action from Milan to Merseyside, Glasglow to London.
Khusoko Sports presents a lowdown on what to expect this weekend:
Everton vs Liverpool
It was ten years ago, today, when Everton last beat Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, and for the first time in a decade, Everton looks to be the better team based on form.
Before the international break, the Toffees were at the back on four straight wins that have them sitting pretty well at the top of the table. Their rivals on other hand had tasted their worst defeat in Premier League history when they were thrashed 7-2 by Aston Villa.
Coming into the match, Everton look to be the more in form team and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s impressive start to the campaign, Liverpool will have a lot to think about in the early kick-off on Saturday.
Liverpool, however, will be buoyed by the return on Sadio Mane and Thiago Alacantara who have recovered from coronavirus and will be looking to put the Reds back in contention in their title-defense.
Celtics vs Rangers
This season is all about 10 in a row – whether Celtic clinch it or Rangers stop them – and the first derby of the season could provide more than a big pointer.
Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side are one point, and one goal, better off their archrivals Celtic, with both teams unbeaten since the start of the season. (Celtic, however, do have a game in hand)
The Rangers look live giving it a real go this season having started remarkably well, while Celtic’s Boss Neil Lennon while be calling on his main man, Odsonne Edouard, to get them rolling as they chase another title.
Inter Milan vs AC Milan
Football fans will remember with nostalgia of the greatness in these two Italian sides. It was woe unto you should your side be pitted against them in quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The two sides are the most successful and historic clubs in the Italian game but by the end of this season it will be 10 years since the Scudetto could call the San Siro home.
Be that as it may, the two rivals will lock horns again in the famous stadium on Saturday evening.
Inter will be without Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar, Radja Nainggolan, Roberto Gagliardini, Ionut Andrei Radu and Ashley Young who have tested positive for the coronavirus, with Milan also having their fair share of the devastating effects of the pandemic.
Two former Manchester United forwards Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will each be called upon by their sides to deliver the vital three points.
Both teams go into this one unbeaten after three matches but it is Milan sitting pretty with the 100 per cent record and no defeats since before lockdown back in March.
Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion
As far as intense rivalries go, this one really kicked off in the 1970s with Brighton boss Alan Mullery chucking coins at the Palace support before v-signs and cups of coffee were thrown.
The teams were in the old Third Division back then and since the Seagulls followed the Eagles up to the top flight a few seasons ago, this is the first fixture the fans look for.
Palace have won two of their four games this season with Brighton managing just the one but a win in this clash could kickstart a campaign.
Tottenham vs West Ham
The return of Gareth Bale may headline this Sunday afternoon London derby.
After having a roller-coaster experience in Spain, Bale may have his comeback return in England against the Hammers.
David Moyes’ side will go into the game buzzing with confidence after thumping Wolves 4-0 and Leicester 3-0.
In his hands, however, will be a side that crushed Manchester United 6-1 and with Bale in contention, the fixture will surely be entertaining to watch.
