Sergio Romero seeks release from Manchester United.

Romero is desperately seeking Manchester United to release him of his contract this month in order to earn him a move to the United States, according to reports.

The Argentinian goalkeeper is now the Red Devils’ goalkeeper third-choice shot-stopper following Dean Henderson’s return to Old Trafford from a two-year loan spell at Sheffield United.

Romero was close to a deadline day move to Premier League side Everton but United demanded a fee from the Toffees, who then opted to move for Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

A report by The Sun indicates that the 33-year-old is happy to be let go from his contract without the £1.5million pay-out fee he would be owed in order to secure a move away from Old Trafford.

United’s refusal to sell their third-choice goalkeeper in the window was met with an angry reaction from the player’s wife, Eliana Guercio, who was angry at the way the Red Devils pulled the plug on the Everton deal.

She wrote on Instagram:

‘It is a very sad day because he desired the chance to go to another club.

‘He has worked hard every day for this, because he gives his all for United and I think that his chances of playing for United have gone down.

‘This doesn’t sound right to me. It doesn’t appear honest or professional or serious that they have to let him go. I am very sad because of this.’
