Khabib Nurmagomedov insists that Tony Ferguson’s career is over after brutal loss to Justin Gaethje

Khabib Nurmagomedov insists that Tony Ferguson’s career is over after brutal loss Justin Gaethje.

Tony Ferguson is ‘finished’ and will never be the same fighter again after the beating he took from Justin Gaethje, claims undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Ferguson and Khabib have been scheduled to fight five times only to have the match-up fall through and ‘El Cucuy’ lost the battle for the interim lightweight belt at UFC 249 in May.

Gaethje delivered a brutal performance and the referee finally intervened in the fifth round to stop the punishment.

Khabib believes the damage taken will change Ferguson irrevocably and mean he can never get back up to the level he once was.

The undefeated Russian, who fights Gaethje at UFC 254 on October 24, told ESPN: ‘Nobody can be the same for a long time — one day, somebody is going to beat you, something is going to happen.

‘God doesn’t give nobody the power, reaction, mental, one level, always. One day you’re going to go down and his day come. It was May. Tony Ferguson is finished now.

‘He’s going to come back, and someone is going to beat him again, I believe.’
