Tottenham thrash Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford.
When Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United in December 2018, he had watched as his side was torn apart by Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs 3-0 in the infamous ‘show me some respect rant by the Portuguese.
This time round, he got the respect he wanted as his side thrashed Manchester United 6-1. It was a record-equalling defeat for the Red Devils who suffered another loss by the same margin to Manchester City in October 2011.
It was a crazy start to the game. United got off to a perfect start. There were 33 seconds gone when Davinson Sanchez made a dreadfully clumsy tackle on Martial, sending Manchester United’s striker sprawling.
Anthony Taylor gave the penalty and Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring.
Spurs got back into the match minutes later when a defensive howler by Harry Maguire would gift Ndombele a chance to equalize.
In the seventh minute, Maguire fouled Harry Kane. The England captain sprung up, placed the ball and played the pass of the game to Hueng-min Son, catching United’s back line utterly unaware. The Korean international made it two.
Anthony Martial would then be given his marching orders for a choke on Eric Lamela. United down to 10-men, Spurs sprang into full attack mode.
An attempt to play-out from the back gifted Spurs the third goal when Son dragged it back to Kane who found the back of the net. Six minutes into the second-half, Aurier was picked out by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and this time did the job himself, a lovely shot into the far corner across De Gea.
In the second half, Aurier’s runs into space would pay as he grabbed the fifth goal for the North London side.
Deep into final minutes, a lunge by Pogba on Ben Davies would present Spurs with a penalty that was dispatched by Kane.
