Kevin De Bruyne named PFA Player of the Year

Kevin De Bruyne wins PFA Player of the Year.

Manchester City playmaker won this year’s coveted trophy on Tuesday night.

The Belgian beat off competition from Liverpool’s Premier League winning duo of Sadio Mane and Virgil van Djik to the accolade.

De Bruyne was Manchester City’s dependable and reliable player despite the Citizens relinquishing the Premier League title to Liverpool in what was Pep Guardiola’s nightmare season.

Speaking after receiving the trophy, De Bruyne said:

‘It’s a huge honour. To be voted for by your colleagues and competitors from other teams who you play against is amazing,’

‘It’s strange that I’m the first one at City given all the good players that have played here before and who are still playing here but it’s nice.’

City are expected to agree a new contract with De Bruyne, who is widely regarded as the finest central midfielder in Europe after blossoming under the management of Guardiola.

The 29-year old scored 13 goals and provided 20 Premier League assists – equaling Thierry Henry’s record in 2002/03.
