Chelsea’s new look after major signings

Chelsea have had a busy summer that has seen them make several major signings.

Frank Lampard sealed the signing of target Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

He becomes the club’s sixth major signing of an incredible transfer window, taking their total spending to an enormous £230m.

This is the high-water mark on an incredible window for Chelsea, which has seen transfer chief Marina Granovskaia land all of the club’s top targets.

Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner had already been secured before the window had opened, the Morocco international joining from Ajax for £38million, while Germany striker Werner arrived from RB Leipzig for £53m.

Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva have both been brought in on free transfers, while Ben Chilwell has also joined for £50m from Leicester City.

Frank Lampard will be heading into his second season at Stamford Bridge with a new look of the side

Frank Lampard’s side begin their Premier League campaign on Monday September 14, when they visit Brighton.

The former England international took charge of the Blues in what was a hugely popular appointment among most fans. With the noose of the transfer ban on the Blues’ neck, he had to seek to the services of the young talent from the club’s academy – and they did not fail him.

While the ship has not been steady, registering shocking defeats both home and away, the 2012 Champions league winner was able to lead the team to book a Champions League spot next season as well as feature in last season’s FA Cup final which they lost to Arsenal.

However, the arrival of such big names will signal concern for the players who helped Chelsea finish fourth in 2019/20, many of whom graduated from the club’s academy.

The likes of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham will surely be wondering what all this means for their place in the starting XI.
