Dean Henderson signs new deal at Manchester United

Dean Henderson signs new deal at Manchester United.

Henderson agreed his new six year contract worth up to £120,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old has been in training at Carrington ahead of his call-up to the England squad on Tuesday and United have taken the opportunity to accelerate talks over a new long-term deal.

They wanted to reward his progress after a stand-out season on loan at Sheffield United and tie him down to the club until June 2025 with the option for a further year.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would like Henderson to compete with David de Gea for the No 1 position but has still to discuss fully what opportunities he can afford to give the young goalkeeper.

Henderson wants to continue his career momentum and play regularly, so question marks remain around spending this coming season competing with de Gea, who is on £360,000-a-week, even though they will have the rigours of Champions League football to contend with.

Long-standing deputy Sergio Romero also wants to play more regularly and is open to moving on amid interest from other Premier League sides.

The young Englishman made 36 appearances for the Blades and kept 13 clean sheets in their campaign last season.
