Juventus opted for new boss Andrea Pirlo over Zinedine Zidane as Real Madrid manager’s wages were too high

Andrea Pirlo was appointed Juventus Manager as he was a cheaper option.
The former Italian midfielder maestro was picked as Juventus’ manager to replace the axed Maurizio Sarri. Sarri was sacked after he failed to lead the team to Champions League glory despite sealing the club’s ninth consecutive league title.
The team’s management had fronted Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane who was said to be the club’s preferred choice.
However, wages of the two proved to be a stumbling block. Former Spurs boss Pochettino reportedly wanted around £8million (€9m) a year to take the reins in Turin, while Madrid’s boss Zidane would have asked for around £10.8m (€12m).
Pirlo, of course, played under both Conte and Allegri during the latter stages of his career, and the beginning of Juve’s domination of Serie A in the past decade.
The board also received the backing of senior players Giorgio Chiellini, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gianluigi Buffon to appoint Pirlo.
In addition, Pirlo shares the same vision as Allegri in terms of combining an offensive philosophy with solidity at the back.
The 41-year-old, who only re-joined the club in a coaching capacity with the Under-23s 10 days ago, has only taken a slight increase in terms in his contract signed at the end of July too.
