Dillian Whyte throws dig at Floyd Mayweather for ‘cherry-picking’ opponents

Dillian Whyte has accused Floyd Mayweather of ‘cherry-picking’ his fights.

Whyte has accused the undefeated boxer of picking his fights throughout his career.

Floyd Mayweather retired from the combat sport back in 2017 with an undefeated 50-0 streak.

Whyte took issue with Floyd’s fight with UFC star Conor Mcregor who switched from UFC to the boxing ring. Floyd would earn a seventh round TKO to extend his unbeaten streak to 50-0.

In an interview with ‘The AK and Barak Show’ on Sirius XM, via World Boxing News, the ‘Body-Snatcher’ said:

I want to fight the best. A lot of guys cherry-pick, like Floyd Mayweather with Conor McGregor. We all knew Floyd was going to beat McGregor. Anyone with any sense knows in a boxing match Floyd’s going to beat him because Connor ain’t got the skill.

Whyte is set to make his own combat crossover to the MMA to fight UFC fighter Francis Ngannou.

‘…I am trying to make this thing happen with someone who is competitive and someone who can win in Francis Ngannou.

‘He can win a boxing match against me because he carries power and he’s active. Also, he’s young and he’s fresh. He has an air of invincibility about him. We said we will do one in the ring and one in the cage.’

Before making his crossover into the octagon, Whyte will return to the ring to face Alexander Povetkin next month – a bout that was due to take place in May but was rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Should he beat the Russian veteran, it would set him up for a title shot with WBC champion Tyson Fury – ahead of the Gypsy King’s proposed two-fight deal with Anthony Joshua next year.
