Safaricom is introducing an Android TV Box as part of a strategy to bring its Home Fibre service to more homes.

It also enables customers to wirelessly project their smartphone and laptop screens to the TV through screencasting.

“Our Home Fibre service has been well received as it offers unlimited internet connectivity for the entire family in an affordable, monthly package,” said chief executive officer Peter Ndegwa.

The TV Box will retail at KSh6,999 and equips any TV with the capability to stream content from Android TV applications like YouTube, Netflix, ShowMax, Hulu, Sling.

Apart from the latest product offer, Safaricom also has a 4G for home dongle.

In its 2020 annual report, the telco says it will continue investing in analytics, AI and machine learning to create new ways in which challenges are analysed and solved.

“Investment in big data analytics is providing us with a far deeper understanding of our customers… While to many this is disruptive, at Safaricom, we are glad to have the opportunity to offer digital solutions at scale and to ease Kenya’s digital transformation.”

“We are making good progress on the home front with the Fiber To Home revenue-driving 60 percent of this growth at 42.7 percent YoY. FTTH remains under-penetrated with strong growth potential. It is important to note that homes connected is growing faster than homes passed and we continue to drive activity and penetration” says Ndegwa.

Currently, according to the Communications Authority of Kenya’s third quarter of the 2019/20 Financial Year industry Report, Safaricom has 78,149 subscribers (15.6 percent), Wananchi with 175,433 subscribers (35 percent), followed by Jamii at 33.1 percent from 165,810 subscribers.
