Hammers knock Blues’ hopes for Top Four Finish

West Ham stunned Chelsea with a last minute winner in a thrilling London derby.

Frank Lampard’s side suffered a last minute loss to West Ham that dented his side’s push for a Top Four finish.

Chelsea came into the match on the back of a three match winning streak, having won all their matches since the restart.

West Ham thought they had opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Tomas Soucek gleefully rifled the ball low into the middle of the net. A VAR review would see referee Martin Atkinson cancel the goal.

The Hammers would have their hearts broken eight minutes later when Martin Atkinson awarded Chelsea a penalty for a foul by Issa Diop. Willian would step up and convert the resultant penalty.

Michael Antonio sent the Hammers to the lead in the 51st minute when he got up from a penalty shout to slot in Jarrod Bowen’s low cross.

Willian would pull one goal back for Chelsea in the 72nd minute curling home a free-kick in off the post.

The result left Chelsea in fourth position with 54 points, two above Manchester United in the race for Champions league football next season.

West Ham moved to 16th position with 30 points in their fight for survival this season.
