Atalanta register a sensational comeback from two goals down to beat Lazio 3-2.
Simon Inzaghi’s squad traveled to Atalanta knowing that only a win would do for the night.
Lazio were sitting second, four points adrift perennial league winners Juventus. A win would put them back in contention for the title that they last won when Sven Goran-Eriksson managed the 1999-2000 squad.
The visitors started brightly and went ahead in the 5th minute courtesy of an own goal by Atalanta’s Marten De Roon.
Five minutes later, Milinkovic-Savic picked up a loose ball outside the area and curled in a brilliant effort that put the visitors firmly in control.
A powerful header from Robin Gosens in the 38th minute put the hosts back in the game.
Ruslan Malinovskyi equalized in the 68th minute, before Palomino Jose’s header in the 80th minute completed the comeback.
The result left Lazio in second with 62 points, four points behind leaders Juventus.
Atalanta on the other hand remained fourth on 54 points, four points behind third placed Inter Milan, and will be looking to cement the position that will guarantee them a place in next season’s Champions League competition.
