SHOCK as Arsenal agree another YEAR contract with David Luiz

David Luiz has agreed a new one year deal with Arsenal.

The Brazilian defender has agreed a contract extension with the Gunners that will see him at the club for another season.

Luiz made a switch from Chelsea last summer and his time at Arsenal has been characterized by mistakes, howlers and poor judgments that have cost the North London outfit valuable points.

The Brazilian international has suffered heavy criticism for his error strewn cameo performance against Manchester City last week.

The 33-year old came on for injured Pablo Mari and was responsible for one goal, a penalty and him being sent off.

The defender was only on the pitch for 26 minutes which saw him make a terrible clearance that gifted City the opening goal deep into first half.

In the second half, he fouled Riyad Mahrez inside the penalty box which saw City given a penalty and him sent off by Anthony Taylor.

David Luiz was sent off last week for a challenge on Riyad Mahrez when Arsenal lost 3-0 to Manchester City

While the defender apologized and took the blame for the loss, many thought that the time had come for the defender to leave the Emirates stadium with his current deal worth around £120,000-a-week, due to expire on June 30.

Clubs had until Tuesday night to finalise short-term extensions to run to the end of this season. However, Arsenal decided to finalise a longer deal for Luiz to keep him until 2021.

Another player that has agreed to a contract extension is Cedric Soares who joined the Gunners on loan in January.

The former Saints defender has however not made a single appearance as he has been hindered chance to play by knee ligament and facial injuries.

It is understood that club’s manager Mikel Arteta has been impressed by the attitude the player in training and believes he can make more telling contributions to his first team plans going forward.

Pablo Mari joined Arsenal in January on loan from Flamengo and has now made a permanent move to Arsenal

Pablo Mari has now joined the club permanently on a £14million transfer.

The defender joined Arsenal in January on loan from Brazilian side Flamengo and has made a couple of appearances for the Gunners, including Arsenal’s clash with Manchester City, in which he got injured and is out for up to four months with ankle ligament damage.
