La Liga: Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos on target as Real Madrid go top of the La Liga Table

Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad 2-1 to go level on points with Barcelona.

Zinedine Zidane’s side go top of the La Liga table as they secure a vital win over Real Sociedad as they push to clinch this year’s title.

The win was however marred with controversy as three major decisions were questionably awarded to Los Blacos.

Skipper Sergio Ramos scored from the spot in the second half, ten minutes before he hobbled off the pitch with a knee injury.

Frenchman Karim Benzema scored Madrid’s second goal to secure their win at Sociedad

The controversy began with the penalty awarded to Real Madrid on a contentious foul on Vinicius Junior.

Sociedad’s forward Adnan Januzaj’s strike was ruled out in the 70th minute for a narrow offside against Mikel Merino.

Benzema’s goal in the 70th minute was also questionable as the Frenchman appeared to control the ball with the top of his arm before slotting the goal.

The goal stood even after review by the VAR.

Mikel Merino pulled one goal back in the 83rd minute for Real Sociedad but could not find another one despite their push and determination in the dying minutes.

The result left Real Madrid tied with Barcelona on points but went top for having a better head-to-head result over the Catalans.
