Kenyan legislator, John Waluke a Member of Parliament from Sirisia Constituency has been found guilty in the Ksh 297million maize fraud case.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions together with Grace Sarapay Wakhungu and Erad Supplies & General Contracts Ltd were found guilty of several corruption charges.
They have been remanded in custody until 25th June 2020 when there will be sentence hearing.
“The case has taken less than 2 years to conclude. This is among the first cases approved for prosecution by DPP Noordin Haji upon taking office in April 2018,” the ODPP in their official Twitter feed.
In the case, trial magistrate Elizabeth Juma ruled that prosecution had proved its case beyond any reasonable doubt.
They were charged over a contract that the company won to supply 40,000 tonnes of maize in 2004.
During the trial, the court heard that the accused allegedly presented a false invoice of KSh115,072,725 on February 24, 2009, as evidence in the arbitration dispute between the company and National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
