Tottenham and Manchester United played out to a 1-1 draw, both team’s strikers made returns from injury.
Coming into the match, most neutrals expected fireworks and plenty of goals given the quality that the two sides boast of.
Instead, it took a howler by David De Gea in the first half and a penalty late in the match to see goals between the two sides.
The much anticipated link and pair of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes won United the penalty though the Frenchman started on the bench and only came into the match in the 63rd minute.
Bergwijn opened the scoring when ran past Harry Maguire and sent a shot that was palmed into the net by David De Gea.
Once Bergwijn put them ahead, however, they looked like a team finally getting its act together under Jose Mourinho. Not just dangerous – Son Hueng-min almost added a second soon after – but resilient and organised, too.
United controlled the match for the better part of the game and sparked into life when Pogba was introduced in the second half.
The Frenchman was outstanding. Working hard on and off the ball, he changed the tempo of United’s midfield.
In the 28 minutes he was on the pitch, even Graeme Souness would be impressed by the World Cup winner.
Pogba would then win United a penalty with ten minutes to go when his quick feet left Eric Dier trailing and the defender’s upper body contact with Pogba was enough to have Jon Moss award the Red Devils a penalty.
There was drama late in the match when VAR overruled a penalty awarded to United. Fernandes appeared to have been brought down by Dier and Jon Moss pointed to the spot. However, the decision was rescinded by VAR.
The result leaves Spurs in eighth position with 42 points while United are fifth with 46 points.
