LaLiga: Sevilla beat Real Betis as football returns in Spain

Sevilla register a 2-0 win over Real Betis as Spanish football returns.

Sevilla registered a comprehensive 2-0 win over city rivals Real Betis in the first match as Spanish football resumed after a three month hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Spanish football was suspended back in March as the coronavirus swept across nations around the globe, with Spain being one of the hardly hit by the novel.

Sevilla’s Lucas Ocampo opened the scoring in the 56th minute with a decisive penalty that broke the resilience of the visitors.

Sevilla were awarded a slightly soft penalty – Marc Bartra punished for an elbow in the back of De Jong – and Ocampos sent Joel Robles the wrong way.

Betis found themselves further behind within six minutes when the hosts doubled their lead when Ocampos turned creator, flicking on a corner for Fernando to head home and seal the points for the hosts.

Social distancing measures were in place behind the closed doors of the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium, which were however quickly forgotten when Sevilla scored.
