Low-cost carrier Jambojet is seeking Kenya Civil Aviation Authority’s approval to operate two hubs from where it will fly nine new domestic routes and 12 additional international routes.

If approved, the Kenya Airways’ subsidiary carrier would operate passenger and air freight deliveries from its hub in Nairobi and Mombasa.

Currently, it operates from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi as its hub.

From Mombasa, it intends to commence ten new routes from Mombasa to Kigali, Entebbe, Addis Ababa, Dar-es-salaam, Zanzibar, Moroni, Dzaoudzi, Bujumbura and Goma.

If licensed, the airline will expand its operations to four new countries including Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Zanzibar, and Dar-es-salaam in Tanzania as well as Moroni in Comoros and Dzaoudzi in the island of Mayotte.

From Nairobi, Jambojet will operate an all-round flight from Nairobi-Kigali-Bunjumbura and back to Nairobi and Nairobi-Entebbe-Goma-Entebbe and back to Nairobi.

Domestically, the airline will fly to Kitale, Lodwar, and Isiolo.

In the domestic market, Jambojet will also fly to five new routes from Mombasa to Kisumu, Eldoret, Malindi, and Lamu.

The airline says it will use its B737, DHC8, ATR72 aricrafts based at JKIA and Mombasa to operate the routes.

“Any representation in favour of or against any application should be made in writing to the Director-General, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority… so as to reach the Authority within twenty-one (21) days from the date of publication of this notice,” said KCAA in the Kenya Gazette, Vol.CXXII-No.97 dated 29 May,2020.

Safarilink Aviation Limited another regional airline based at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, has also applied to expand its domestic and international routes.

In their application, they seek to operate international scheduled air service for passengers, cargo and mail on the routes from its hub to Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and from its hub to Zanzibar to Mombasa and Nairobi.

For its domestic routes, it aims to commence flights to Masai Mara, Masai Mara to Migoro, Tsavo  (Kilaguni/Finch Hatton/Oldonyo Wuas/Voi), Naivasha (Loldia) – Masai Mara, Nanyuki – Lewa Downs – Loisaba – Samburu – Wilson.
