Fairmont Hotels and Resorts has closed it’s Fairmont The Norfolk in Nairobi and Mara Safari Club indefinitely and will fire all the staff due to uncertainties of the coronavirus pandemic.
“It is regrettable that our Hotels, Fairmont The Norfolk and Fairmont Mara Safari Club have since ceased their operations as a spiral effect of the COVID-19 and the recent flooding of Fairmont Mara Safari Club. These unprecedented natural causes have resulted in disruption of our business now and in the foreseeable future,” reads a memo signed by the Country General Manager, Mehdi Morad on Thursday.
“It is, therefore, the decision of the management to terminate the services of all its employees due to frustration by way of mutual separation and taking into account the loyalty and dedication the employees have put into the success of our company in the previous years,” Morad wrote in the May 27 memo.
Staff have been advised to collect their termination letters on June 5. “Employees will be entitled to one month’s pay in lieu of notice,” he said and assured them of their pension.
