League Two clubs have unanimously agreed to cancel the remaining football season in the 2019/20 calendar.
The Clubs voted to have the season ended with the remaining games determined via a weighted points-per-game system.
The Clubs noted that they are not in any position to facilitate the testing for Covid-19 required of players and staff.
With games cancelled back in March, the clubs have struggled to keep afloat with the players and managers’ wages demands.
Clubs are required to facilitate the testing which requires £140,000 needed for sufficient COVID-19 tests.
The Club vote will need to be upheld by the EFL and the FA.
In a statement, the league said:
Having considered the protocols and costs that would be required to be met to conclude the current season, League Two Clubs have unanimously indicated a preferred direction of travel to curtail the campaign in line with the framework outlined by the EFL Board.
In addition, Clubs asked for consideration to be given to suspending relegation to the National League for 2019/20 as a result of circumstances created where fixtures cannot be completed. No commitments were made in this respect and the Board will now consider the implications of the division’s preferred approach at their next meeting.
The vote means that the teams that were aiming to earn promotion will have to wait to learn what will become of that.
Clubs in the relegation zone will also have to await a word and verdict to learn whether they will remain up or will be relegated.
When the season was suspended in March, Crewe Alexandra was at the summit of the table, with Swindon Town in second place only on goal difference.
