• Bundesliga is set to resume games on May 16
  • Games will resume from matchday 26

Bundesliga revealed their plan after the league was given the green light to resume.

The German league was among the numerous sporting events cancelled or postponed back in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The German Government gave the league green light to resume in the second half of May on Wednesday.

The German FA would then announce that the games would kick-off next weekend.

The Association began making plans of resumption that included players returning back to training and games being played behind closed doors.

What awaits

Bundesliga will become the first top-flight league to resume the football calendar postponed back in March.

Among the standout fixtures on the ‘opening weekend’ will be the Revierderby – a clash between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke.

Dortmund sits behind league leaders Bayern Munich while Schalke is in the sixth position. The clash between these two teams is one of the fiercest rivalries in Germany.

Bayern Munich’s first fixture back will see them take on Union Berlin on Sunday 17 May

Fortuna Dusseldorf and Paderborn were set to meet up next Friday night – but they have moved that clash to Saturday.

Dusseldorf are in 16th place, on course for the relegation play-off at the end of the campaign but just four points from safety.

RB Leipzig will take on Freiburg while Hoffenheim will take on Hertha Berlin. Augsburg will take on Wolfsburg while Eintracht Frankfurt will host Monchengladbach.

On Monday night, Werder Bremen take on Bayer Leverkusen.
