Kenya on Tuesday reported its highest daily increase in new COVID-19 cases after 45 people tested positive; the highest number recorded on a single day since the first case of coronavirus was confirmed.

The Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mutahi Kagwe expressed concerns over community transmission.

“We have the highest number today and that shows how serious this pandemic is in our country,” said Kagwe.

“Out of 1,077 tested, some 45 people have turned positive. This is the highest number recorded in 24 hours ever since the first case on March 12.”

29 patients are from Nairobi. Eastleigh has 63 cases, resulting from mass testing, Kawangware 24, and Old Town 39.

“The figures show that the disease is fast spreading in these areas. Thus the importance to test, trace and treat,” the CS said.

9 people were discharged raising the number of recoveries in the country to 182.

The new cases comprised of 30 males and 15 females.
