Kenya’s Ministry of Health Sunday appealed to residents in targeted areas to come forward to be tested for it to effectively fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Chief Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Health Dr. Rashid Aman disclosed that only 803 people had have been tested for Covid-19 disease in Kawangware and 494 in Eastleigh areas of Nairobi.
“This is way below the target,” Dr Aman said.
“I want to appeal to Kenyans to willingly come forward to be tested. If we have to flatten our infections and minimise the risk of transmission, the Ministry of Health encourages Kenyans in the target areas to present themselves to the testing teams. Experience has shown that countries that have managed to flatten their infection curve quickly, have heavily relied on targeted testing. The tests will be conducted free of charge.”

The ministry confirmed new positive cases in the last 24 hours from 883 cases. This was the second-highest since March 25 when it reported 28 cases. The national tally now stands at 465.
The cases were reported in Mombasa (19), Nairobi (8), Bungoma (2). Of the cases, 23 are male while seven are female.
Two fatalities were reported in Mombasa raising the tally to 24. There are now 15 recoveries bringing the tally to 167.
