Two Kenyan Athletes suspended for Doping

Two Kenya athletes have been suspended for violations of anti-doping rules.

Alex Korio Oliotiptip and Mikel Kiprotich Mutai have been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for separate violations of World Athletics anti-doping regulations.

Alongside Korio are US sprinters Deajah Stevens and Gabrielle Thomas who have been suspended while Mutai has been punished for presence of norandrosterone – a prohibited substance.

This comes one month after the Integrity Unit suspended 2017 London Marathon Champion Daniel Wanjiru for a doping violation.

Last month, the body slapped a four year ban on Vincent Yator after he tested positive of a banned substance. The 30-year old athlete’s urine was found to contain the presence of Prednisone, Prednisolone and metabolites of testosterone. The substances are prohibited.

According to Integrity Unit, a provisional suspension is when an athlete or other person is suspended temporarily from participating in any competition or activity in athletics prior to a final decision at a hearing conducted under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules or the Integrity Code of Conduct.
