Premier League ‘to consider introducing 5 Subs per match’

Premier League clubs are said to be fronting an idea of having the use of five substitutes if they are to see off the football calendar.

While a date is yet to be confirmed on when football will resume in England, Premier League is understood to considering implementing several temporary rules which include the use of five substitutes.

Premier League Clubs have requested the use of five substitutes for each game

With the remaining games packed in a short time-frame, increasing the number of substitutes is meant to protect players from burn-out and injuries with players returning from a long lay-off into a packed schedule.

If approved it will then be decided between the 20 Premier League sides if they want to adopt it for the rest of the season.

The idea is to protect players from risks of burn-out or injuries due to the packed fixture schedules

While teams would be allowed to make two more changes than usual they would still only have three windows each in which to do so during a game.

Most top-flight clubs had nine games remaining in the league when the coronavirus crisis meant the season had to be paused in mid-March.
