Sony Sugar is hoping that the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic will help them move back to the Kenya Premier League (KPL).
Sony Sugar chairman Gabriel Otiende said that the team is hoping that the league will be declared null and void and thereby give them a chance to move back to the top-flight league.
Sony Sugar was relegated to the National Super League last year in November when the team failed to honor league matches against AFC Leopards, Tusker FC and Zoo FC.
The Awendo-based side had been hit with a series of hurdles that was herald by the withdrawal of their main sponsor Sony Sugar Company.
Otiende further reiterated their disappointment at the management body of KPL who he claims made an ill-informed and ill-advised drastic decision of relegating the team.
We had informed the management body of the problems that we were facing as we had exhausted all our finances. We were not relegated because we were a poor side but due to financial constraints. Even before this pandemic, teams which were struggling financially like Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Chemelil Sugar, Kisumu All Stars and Nzoia endured strikes among their players and faced difficulties in honoring their matches.
The management body suspended the league back in March due to the coronavirus pandemic that has claimed 14 lives in the country.
