  • German politicians suggest that the league could return

The Bundesliga could return as early as May 9, this is according to German politicians that are of the idea of the games resume.

According to the politicians, the German top-flight could resume in May behind closed doors.

Speaking to Bild, German politician Markus Soder said: ‘I imagine that we can go back to the state of games behind closed doors. Games with audience participation are completely unthinkable.’

Games behind closed doors are also a tightrope walk.

Bundesliga Chief Christian Seifert a week ago revealed a plan to have the games resumed in May and played behind closed doors in the top two divisions.

However, this appeared less likely as the ban on large-scale public events in Germany was extended until August 31 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Borussia Dortmund are four points behind Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga

Markus further said that a weekend with football was much more bearable than one without.

Bundesliga was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak with nine matches still to play.

Bayern Munich is four points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga, while RB Leipzig sit a point behind Lucien Favre’s side in third.
