Kenya on Tuesday announced 14 more cases of the Covid-19 disease, bringing the total of confirmed cases in the country to 172.
The 14 additional cases were from 696 samples that had been tested in the last 24 hours.
Out of the new 14 cases, seven are from Nairobi, two from Mombasa, two from Mandera while Machakos, Kisii and Kiambu had one case each.
“We have tested 4,923 people so far,” said Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe. He also said they have discharged three 3 from the hospital. This brings to seven the total number of individuals discharged.
On Monday, the National Security Council directed the restriction of movement into and out of four affected counties—Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale—for 21 days.
Kagwe noted that, the mortality may be low but urged citizens to follow the set World Health Organisation’s guidelines aimed at containing the virus.
“Let us embrace that which will save us from lurking danger. It’s important we adhere to measures if we are to score significant gains against this monster,” he said.
“Fellow Kenyans, let us brace ourselves for bad news, let us prepare for the worst. We must brace ourselves and be ready mentally to face a situation we have never faced before,” he said.
“We can no longer run away from the disease. It is an invisible enemy that it is here with us and if we allowed ourselves to play chasing games with it, it will be difficult for us as a nation to catch up with it.”
