Kenya has confirmed 29 more coronavirus cases bringing the national total to 110 on Thursday. Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced two fatalities bringing the number to three.

“It is sad to report that we have lost 2 patents who were being treated for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. This now brings the total number of deaths in Kenya to 3,”  Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced in his daily brief.

“Out of 662 samples, 29 people have tested positive for coronavirus. 28 of them are Kenyans and 1 is Congolese. The total number of those who have tested positive in Kenya is now at 110,” CS Kagwe said.

The ministry observed that out of the 110 confirmed cases, 30-40 are of local transmission with no travel history, for some no history of direct contact with those who have COVID-19.

He asked those on quarantine to keep serious social distance as 23 of the confirmed cases were detected in the designated quarantine facilities while six were from suspected cases in isolation units.

” This number, I must say is going to rise and will rise exponentially. We must change behaviors and attitudes to cut the transmission of the virus. Had we not placed the people under mandatory quarantine when we did, the story would be different, ” He added.

6,000 health practitioners to be hired

Health Cabinet Secretary says through government instructions, 5000 skilled health workers within the country would be hired within the next seven days. “An additional 6000 health workers will be in place to fight coronavirus.”
