Three more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in Kenya. However, as of Wednesday, the country has 81 positive cases and one fatality.

“The 1st and 3rd Covid-19 patients in Kenya Brenda and Brian have fully recovered. We now have 3 recoveries,” said the Ministry of Health.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, through a virtual meeting with the two fully recovered patients, applauded Brenda for being brave in coming out and taking herself to the hospital.

“You are special because upon your arrival and you feeling that you were not well… without being pushed, you took it upon yourself realising that you had the risk to harm others and take yourself to Kenyatta National Hospital,” Uhuru said.

“She is no longer Number one. Her name is Brenda. Thank you Brenda for saving lives.”

Covid-19 Cases rise to 81

The Ministry reported 22 more positive cases on Wednesday. This was from 300 people who had been tested within the last 24 hours. The new patients are: 18 Kenyans, two Pakistanis, and 2 Cameroonians.

“COVID-19 is spreading very first in our community. Today (Wednesday)  we have 22 new cases. Let us quarantine ourselves and stay home to protect each other,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe pleaded in his daily brief.

13 of the cases are males and 9 are females: one of them is a patient admitted to Mombasa Hospital.

“This is an increase of 144% from 9 new cases reported yesterday (Tuesday). Cumulative total growth was highest since 24th March at 37% from 18% yesterday. With a resistance of 10 new cases broken, new cases may now be in the double digits,” According to financial analyst, Mihr Thakar who has been tracking the Ministry’s data.

On March 12, 2020, the first case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was confirmed in Kenya.

Kenyatta who spoke to the two in a video call urged Kenyans to follow the example set by Brenda and Brian to protect their loved ones.

“If we were able to follow Brenda and Brian’s example, we can contain this disease. As the two young people are showing us, we can not only contain this disease,  but we can also treat it and get out of it. So, for all of us who are out there with the symptoms, let us behave like these two brave and patriotic Kenyans,” Kenyatta appealed.

26-year-old Brenda, had travelled from the United States via London and had a cough three days after arrival.

“I think I may have contracted the virus in London or on the plane on my way back. After arriving in the country, I started having a cough and decided to watch the response of my body for a day and after that its when I decided to go to Mbagathi hospital where I was tested,” she narrated.

Brian, on the other hand, contracted the virus after coming into close contact with Brenda.
