Larry Madowo, a Kenyan journalist and a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Economics and Business Journalism at Columbia University in New York has been named among the Young Global Leaders 2020 by World Economic Forum.
Alongside him are 112 activists, academics, executives and political leaders from 51 countries. They include US women”s football team co-captain Megan Rapinoe, world-renowned street artist JR, New Zealand”s first refugee parliamentarian Golriz Gharhaman, Finland”s youngest prime minister Sanna Marin, and Xiaomi”s international business president Chew Shou Zi.
“I’m just a kid from a village in western Kenya. I’m so honoured to be among such fine people! I have no words,” said Larry on his LinkedIn page.
Started in 2004 by World Economic Forum (WEF) founder Klaus Schwab, the Forum of Young Global Leaders focuses on addressing complex social issues such as conserving natural resources, connecting refugees to the global economy, and addressing global health issues.
“Each year, the Forum of Young Global Leaders identifies the world’s most promising leaders under the age of 40 – people driving innovation for positive change across civil society, arts, culture, government and business. By connecting them to a community of remarkable peers and investing further in their leadership abilities, the aim is to create a ripple effect over five years that benefits their organizations and the world,” said WEF.
According to WEF, Madowo, a BBC Africa Business Editor launched six new business TV shows for African audiences in English, French and Swahili.
Madowo is also an on-air correspondent on BBC radio and television and has reported from more than 40 countries.
