Chandarana Foodplus Supermarket is the main anchor tenant at Nairobi’s Signature Mall on Mombasa Road bringing its branch network to 18.
The 28,000 square feet space was previously occupied by Botswana retailer Choppies Enterprises.
The store will offer a wide range of in-store options such as the deli, bakery and fruit and vegetable section. The retailer says it will be targeting residents from Syokimau, Mlolongo, Sabaki area, Athi River and Kitengela.
The mall houses Best Western Hotel, Pearl View Restaurant, among others.
According to Cytonn Investments’ Real Estate Annual Markets Review 2019, the retail performance softened with yields declining by 1.2% points to 7.8% in 2019 from 9.0% in FY’2018 attributed to an introduction of 0.4 mn SQFT of retail space into the Nairobi Metropolitan Area (NMA) market driving down rents and occupancy rates by 1.5% and 3.3% points, respectively, and constrained spending power among consumers due to a tough financial environment.
