Real People Kenya Limited, a non-deposit taking financial solutions provider for businesses in East Africa, has announced the appointment of Dr. Robert Lukhanda Shibutse as the new chief executive with effect from 18th December 2019. 

He replaces Charl Hendrik Kocks.

Dr. Robert on his Linkedln page, he is a highly experienced Finance and Business Services Executive who has demonstrated the ability to lead diverse teams of professionals in a highly competitive financial industry. 

“An impressive record of more than 17 years of hands-on experience in financial management, strategic planning, business unit development, project management, and business re-engineering strategies.”

Other people who have held the position include Yvonne Godo, who held the position since January 2017 following the exit of Daniel Ohonde who quit in 2016. He served in an acting capacity.

Real People is part of the larger Real People Group that was incorporated in 2001 in South Africa.

It commenced operations in Kenya in 2006 focussing on payroll lending until 2009 when it restructured to offer credit to SMEs. Real People has seven branches in Kenya, three in Uganda and an office in Tanzania.

The troubled firm in Augustrestructured it’s debt after noteholders resolved to extend the repayment period of its KSh267.1 million notes maturing in 2019 to February 28, 2020.

The firm said it will announce in due course a strategic partner.
