Kenya’s national men’s sevens team qualified for the Rugby Sevens at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

On Saturday, Kenya defeated Uganda 31-0 at the Bosman Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa to qualify directly for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Kenya won through five tries and three conversions.

“The boys played very well. We had a plan of how we wanted to play in this tournament,” said Kenya head coach Paul Feeney. “The players worked very hard throughout the competition. They trained for 11 weeks non-stop. So, I am very proud of them. We will take a break, then prepare for the 2020 World Rugby Sevens Series.”

Kenya joins South Africa, who qualified automatically for the Olympics for finishing as one of the top four teams at the end of the 2018/2019 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Nine teams have qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics – Japan as hosts and the top four teams from the 2018/2019 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series (Fiji, USA, New Zealand and South Africa), Great Britain, Argentina, and Canada.
