Bulk carrier MV Lowlands Mimosa, with a gross Tonnage of 35596, docked at the port of Mombasa, Berth No. 9 at the Port on Saturday according to the Kenya Ports Authority.

The vessel is the largest tonnage ever bulk carrier to dock in Kenya in its entire history following its maiden arrival said the Authority.

“The ship docked at Berth No. 9 at the Port on Saturday, June 22, 2019 with 50,500 metric tons of fertilizer for the Kenya Tea Development Authority,” said KPA.

According to KPA head of conventional cargo operations Paul Bor, going forward, there is an urgent need to expand the berths to handle such kinds of vessels. “We need now to think of maybe going even up to 13-metre draft which calls for maybe dredging,” said Bor.

The ship came from Novorossiysk port in Russia on June 2 according to marinetraffic.com.

The bulk Carrier was built in 2018 and currently sails under the flag of Panama.
