Spanish on-demand delivery app dubbed Glovo has launched its operations in Nairobi enabling its users to purchase any product and have it delivered instantly at their doorstep.

Glovo allows users to order anything with a simple tap on their smartphone – be it food or groceries or placing gift orders to send out to their loved ones. In addition to the categories listed in the app, users can request “Anything” orders, in which the courier will pick up and deliver any item from any store in less than an hour.

Priscilla Muhiu, Glovo’s Head of Marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa said: “We are extremely excited about our launch in Nairobi after Morocco and Cairo, which strengthens our presence in Africa, and at the same time reinforces the transformation that the on-demand economy and delivery sector is undergoing in Kenya. Our vision is to bring the convenience of technology to everyone’s hand, giving them access to their own city, while creating income opportunities for thousands of Glovers i.e our delivery riders.”

Glovo will refund the delivery fees for any deliveries done in more than 45 minutes. “Speed of delivery is one of Glovo’s value proposition and we would like to assure all our customers that we will live up to this promise,” said Priscilla.

Glovo seeks to make everything available to everyone by connecting Kenyans with possibilities. To enable this, Glovo has partnered with a wide range of establishments, including restaurants, supermarkets, butcheries, bakeries, gift shops and as well as a network of Bike riders (Glovers) to deliver the products.

The service is present in over 20 countries and more than 100 cities (including Paris, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Cairo and now Nairobi). Every month, around 3 million orders are being delivered through the app under an average delivery time of 45 minutes.

For the next couple of weeks, Glovo will be running a referral program where users will be rewarded with credit worth Ksh. 600 when a user they referred uses Glovo. The referred user will also get credit worth Ksh. 600 to use on their first order.

Glovo is a startup founded in 2015 in Barcelona and, since then, has expanded its operations to three continents – Europe, Africa, and South America.

Four easy steps to start ordering through Glovo:

1. Download the app for Android or iOS.
2. Insert Delivery Location: Input the address to which you’d like your items to be delivered to.
3. Find the perfect store and make your selection, or press the “anything” button and make a wish.
4. Sit back and track the progress of your delivery – A Glover is on it.
