Explosions and gunfire were heard at 14 Riverside, Westlands on Wednesday afternoon in Nairobi.

According to Aljazeera, Somalia-based armed group al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack.

“We are currently conducting an operation in Nairobi.” the group’s military operations spokesman told Al Jazeera.

The Kenya police confirmed the attack through their social feed stating that “Police wishes to confirm that there has been an attack incident along 14 Riverside Drive. The area has since been cordoned off and motorists are advised to use alternative routes to facilitate smooth operations of the Police.”

At around 16:46 pm, Dan Obura, who works at Red House Agency said he could “…here people being evacuated downstairs,” after “The gunshots have stopped.”
